You have done your best. You have put all of your most fabulous thoughts and ideas onto the paper. You have elaborated on the topic. The arguments are convincing, and the flight of imagination fascinates. It is high time you moved on to the conclusion. It is one of the most important parts of your essay and the last chance to prove your points to the readers. You need to sum everything up and make a “delicious” point in it.
What’s the point?
To understand how to finish the essay an author should reread his work and find something that makes it unique. There can be a tip that will show what exactly needs to be emphasized at the bottom and why. Think of that. This is not your essay, and you are just a reader. You enjoyed it, and you want to share your thoughts about it with your friend. There are 5-6 sentences and 2 minutes at your disposal. Which words will you choose to describe what you have read to get your friend intrigued and make him understand it himself?
Brainstorm the ideas
You can make a list of the ideas connected with the conclusion. Anything is different from various angles. There is no need to come up with something new, but a creator has to pick up the main points of the work and try to show them briefly and in many different ways. The best idea is worth being in your conclusion.
It is one of the simplest ways, but it always works out. Look through the first paragraph of your work. You touched on the subject that now you can expand on brighter. That will help you to make your essay look complete and as a coherent whole. Isn’t it what you are heading?
This is the last paragraph of your essay. People will figure out that this is a conclusion. Try to avoid phrases like “to sum up”, “in conclusion”, “in summery”, “in closing”. It is not a mistake, and you can do it, but you want to stand out of the crowd, you want to show your individuality and the unusual thinking, why do you need to use words that everybody inserts into the texts?
You have a statement that you believe in and are going to prove in your work. Don’t forget to include it when you finish your essay. It cannot be just copied and pasted. Work on it and represent in a whole new light using other sayings and expressions not to make your reader confused and bored. It can produce a lasting impression, but it will be unpleasant.
Brevity is the soul of wit.
You have written the essay; you don’t have to write a new one. Your conclusion has to be one-fourth of your work, not more. Usually, it is enough to write 5-7 sentences to finish the job you started. It should be concise, clear and catchy. Don’t be afraid to be emotive and sincere, but remember the time when to stop.
To be or not to be?
If there is a place for a little philosophy, you can use the opportunity and finish with a rhetorical question. You have shared your points of view, and now you can give a chance to your readers to conclude themselves. It can be something like an appeal to people, aimed at inducing action or reassessment of the attitude to the subject matter. It is always interesting to make up your mind after reading and delve into the issue.
Take it easy…
…and make it easy for your readers to get you. High-flow language might divert readers’ attention from the primary aim of the conclusion – make people get into your words and thoughts wholly and entirely. Do you want them to take your side and endorse you, even if they thought differently before reading your essay? Give them a chance and don’t distract them with your nerdy words.
Final Curtain. Applause.
Be confident and compelling. There is no place for phrases like “I might be wrong, but”, “I’m not sure”, “I don’t know that for a fact”, “I’m not a pro in this”. Don’t allow people undermine their confidence in your being right. Because you are and you are free to have your viewpoint. Just prove it and make it beautiful.
